Logitech Pure-Fi Express Plus Omnidirectional Speaker Dock for iPod and iPhone

  • My wife wanted a speaker system for her iPod that could be used portable if needed. As with all audio equipment, my first recommendation is try them out at a store first. Audio equipment is pretty subjective so it is best you hear them for yourself. We tried a bunch of different portable iPod/iPhone speaker systems at Target and Best buy, and out of all the ones in the sub $100 category, this one far surpassed most in the power and tone of the audio. Most portable speaker systems have a sharper tinnier sound due to the smaller speakers. We found the Pure-Fi produced much more powerful audio and had a warmer color to the tone.I really liked the fact that it came with a remote that can control basic settings and stores nicely in the back where the built-in handle is. We found several other speakers charged as much as $50 separately for the remote. Although it does have a clock on it, the display is pretty small, so this definitely is not intended to be used as a clock radio. The speaker system works great if you want something to use around the house or office with the ability to not have to plug it in all the time. I don\'t necessary recommend it as a \"portable\" speaker system though. Although the audio sounds nice and full, it is a fair bit larger than other comparable \"portable\" systems. Because the iPod/iPhone sit on top of the speaker system, it would make it challenging to carry it while the ipod is still docked. In the end my wife decided she wanted something smaller, so we got the JBL Onstage speakers. Much smaller and still with an included remote. It doesn\'t have quite the power that the Pure-Fi does, but the audio is actually crisper.
  • I use the Logitech Pure-Fi Express Plus as a dock for my iPod Nano (4th Gen). Dock receptors are included for other devices and you should check the specs to make sure your device will fit.I am pleasantly surprised by the sound quality from this compact player. My previous dock had larger speakers and didn\'t sound anywhere near as good. The 360 Sound is great, especially on the patio. I use it a great deal out on the patio and the sound quality outdoors is very good. I\'ve found that placing the player three to six inches in front of a solid surface enhances the volume, especially the bass tones. The remote control is a nice feature, but is limited to on/off, volume, pause and next/previous song. It would be great to be able to change playlists and playback functions via the remote. I don\'t use the alarm clock function. The only problem I encountered was in swapping the factory-installed standard dock receptor to the one sized for the iPod Nano. Neither the instruction manual nor the Logitech Help Center did not clearly explain that you simply use a little bit of pressure to pull out one receptor and snap in another. (Most users are understandably reluctant to start yanking on things in trial and error). But it only took a couple of minutes online to find the answer. All in all, it\'s a very good product, sounds great and is small enough to use almost anywhere. I\'m very pleased with it.
  • I bought this unit for my iPod Touch 3G and have been very satisfied. I had it out of the box and playing music within seconds. No complicated setup required. It has a remote control that I find handy but wish I could do more with as far as browsing my Touch. From the remote you can adjust volume, start and stop play, turn on shuffle or repeat mode and browse forward and backward (but not up and down). There is a clock and alarm and the snooze is very convenient (push in the volume knob, which is prominent and therefore easy to nail when in a stupor) compared to some of its competitors. The unit looks good enough to have out on a table and it helps to have it out a bit anyway to enhance the sound. Speaking of the sound I was mildly disappointed that it was a bit tinny but I still think a very good quality for this price range. This unit charges your iPod device while in the stand (and on AC power). It can run on batteries but I have not tried this so don\'t know what the expected life would be. I had looked at a variety of iPod speaker products in prices ranging from $20 up to $200 and feel like this one was perfect for what I was looking for. I have owned several other iPod speakers and this one is my favorite in terms of value. If you don\'t have to have top-end sound this is a great unit for casual listening and charges your iPod while on AC.
  • I have had the unit for a month or so and it has worked very well. It is solidly constructed and the remote is held in the back of the unit securely without a need to worry about losing it. I primarily use it for my alarm clock and playing music in the bedroom or around the house. I had my first opportunity to unplug it and take it outside on battery power while I worked in the yard this weekend and it did not dissapoint. My only recommendation would be that I wish that there was another battery to hold the time and alarm settings besides the ones powering the whole unit when unplugged. The batteries last about 10 hours or so. I used up the batteries and then once I plugged it back in I had to reset my time and alarm. The only other gripe I would have about the product is the adapters that came with the product would not work with my new ipod nano. I happeded to have another adapter from another product so it wasnt the end of the world but it was unexpected. All in all it is a great compact unit with very good sound, simple but refined controls and a sleek look. I would recommend this product especially in the $80-$100 price range.
