Bose SoundDock XT Speaker (White/Dark Gray)

  • This unit excels in its niche role of nighstand docking station. Sound quality is rich and warm at low volume, perfect for bedtime music. If you like to crank your music up to 10 at bedtime, check out the Bose SoundDock 10, it can fill up a cavern-sized room and should be more than loud enough to (ahem) fall asleep to.Tethered docking stations have fallen out of favor, since people want to hold their iPhones. That\'s why bluetooth speakers are all the rage today. However, this unit is specifically designed as an old-fashioned (circa 2009) charging dock. The docked iPhone 6 is actually taller than this unit, that\'s how small it it. For its size, it can crank pretty loud if you\'re looking for more uses than as a nightstand dock. This unit plugs in, there is no battery option to make it cordless. There is also no bluetooth, no remote. It\'s designed for one thing: dock your iPhone so it charges while playing music. It does have an AUX IN connection allowing you to play other audio devices through it, but it won\'t charge such a device.I wasn\'t even in the market for such a device, until I saw Bose come out with this the other day. At $150 it\'s not dirt cheap, but it\'s half the cost of the bigger SoundDock III, and it\'s nice to fall asleep listening to music and wake up to a fully charged iPhone.
  • I know what you\'re thinking - how can any Bose product cost this little? Surely you can\'t get that world class Bose sound for less than $150. I hear you friend - I too was a skeptic - thus I asked for it as a Christmas gift (let some other sucker pay money for it and give it to me!). I plugged it in and slotted my iPhone 5 to the dock and was surprised to hear the rich sound that boomed forth. This was that Bose sound that, up until now, I had only heard at displays in Best Buy. I loved it so much I immediately bought a second one for my office.Really the only con with this dock is that it only has a lighting and aux in. If you are looking to connect an old 30-pin iPod or blue tooth connect you\'re out of luck. I looked for a lightning to 30-pin connector adapter but it doesn\'t seem like there are any trustworthy ones out there. Apple keeps that stuff pretty locked down.As long as you\'ve got a lightning device though I can\'t recommend this high enough for you if you want a great sounding/low cost speaker.
  • I am very disappointed with the product, especially having paid $149 for a supposedly quality product from Bose. I\'ve been using it for about eight months, with my ipod connected via the lightening connector. After a few uses, the sound would intermittently cease, prompting me to need to re-dock my ipod. This worked until recently. There is no longer any sound coming from the unit with the ipod docked, and I\'ve tried everything to fix it. (Note: The ipod works fine when docked to my computer.) In the end, I purchased a cheap 3.5 mm male to male audio cable, connecting via the headphone jack of my ipod to the AUX input jack at the rear of the unit. This works, but now the ipod doesn\'t charge. So, ultimately, the cheap dock on the unit failed rendering the unit partly useful. In addition, the sound quality is not that great, unless the volume is turned up very high. If you\'re restricted to playing music in environments requiring low volume, don\'t expect excellent sound quality. Finally, I wasn\'t thinking about this before purchasing the unit, but not having remote control -- at least to control the volume -- is a bit inconvenient. So, overall, I would not recommend this expensive product, given the lack of reliability and poor sound quality.UPDATE: A year later, this product is simply frustrating to use. After about 30 minutes of use, some sort of feedback is sent to the speakers rather than music from my ipod. This is, apparently, due to electrostatic build up, requiring me to unplug the device and my ipod for about 10 minutes. This is clearly a design flaw. Comments from the company to unplug the device is just ridiculous. Fix the design of this product...and give me my money back!
  • A real improvement in sound over my internet radio, which I use on the accessory cord. It\'s great for my iphone, too, but not so great for my iPods, which was the reason for the purchase. The cat broke the old iPod station, so I wanted something a little bigger, but the 8 pin thing doesn\'t have any available 8 pin to 30 pin adapters that actually work for the 30 pin iPods, which I like to use for walks, and have the choice of local radio or my podcasts or music without the data usage of using my phone on the walks. So I\'m back to charging them on the laptop, and updating even when it\'s not necessary, lots of time wasted…Also tried to use it on accessory cord with the tv, but it doesn\'t work at all--can\'t figure out why..
  • This is Bose after all so the sound is terrific. I used it for my iPhone and am very happy with the sound, but putting the phone on the thing is a pain. It will not accept a phone in its case. The plug is simply a lightening jack sticking out of a flat surface and it it exactly the length of any charging jack you buy. The jack is the only thins holding th phone in place so be sure to get the phone firmly seated to the jack and make sure the dock is on a level surface or the phone comes lose. It recharges quickly.
  • After fifteen years, the AIWA stereo finally died on us. Luckily, all my music went digital, so I could get a docking station like this to satisfy nearly all my music requirements. This dock is stable, aesthetic, and has amazing sound. I can max out my iPod\'s output, and no loss of sound quality can be heard. I had to go with four stars, because this dock will only work on a caseless iPhone 5 and up. It\'s bothersome that I have to remove my phone case, because that 1/16\" hard rubber shell is enough to deny a connection.
  • Wow this thing sounds amazing, and it’s impressively loud for the size. I see a lot of reviews about the interface not working after a while, and so I have elected to keep my iPhone docked on the machine. This seems to keep it working, and I bet that’s why the others are wearing out for people. All in all this is amazing,And I wish I would’ve had money to purchase it sooner.
